Polaris Nuclear Grid: On the 25th, China’s Minister of Environmental Protection Zhou Shengxian said in Beijing that as of the end of 2010, 13 nuclear power units have been put into operation in mainland China, and 28 nuclear power units are under construction. The overall operation safety; various research reactors and nuclear fuels In-service nuclear facilities such as recycling facilities are safe and controllable.
On the same day, Zhou Shengxian was entrusted by the State Council of China to report on the environmental protection work to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
Zhou Shengxian said that in recent years, the management of China's nuclear technology utilization activities has become increasingly standardized, and the entire process of production, sales, use, import and export, and recycling has been initially implemented. The decommissioning and pollution control work of old nuclear facilities was implemented steadily, and 31 radioactive waste banks were built, and high-risk pollution sources were gradually controlled. The National Radiation Environmental Monitoring Network and the Nuclear Radiation Warning System have been established, and nuclear safety supervision capabilities have been strengthened. The emergency monitoring and disposal of the Wenchuan earthquake and the nuclear accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan were effectively carried out.
Zhou Shengxian also frank that there are still problems in China's environmental protection work. For example, the safety risks of early nuclear facilities are increasing; the safety supervision of new nuclear power plants is difficult; the quality management level of civil nuclear safety equipment needs to be improved; and a large amount of radioactive waste is urgently needed for disposal.
